Aboriginal Employment Strategy (AES) - "Pathway To The Future"

Crosslands has an Aboriginal Policy and Aboriginal Employment Strategy (AES) which outlines our commitment to Aboriginial employment. The strategy, "Pathway to the Future, focuses on developmnet of long term pathways and aims to identify skilled and capable local Aboriginal workers who have the potential to fill existing and future job vacancies.

We also work closely with with our contracting partners to encourage them to undertake these programs.

The AES process includes:

  • Advertising for suitable indigenous applicants (through local media)
  • Short listing of applicants (medical screens, licence checks)
  • Personal development and mine familiarisation and induction courses
  • Ongoing mentoring and on-site support.
  • Practical and theorectical on-site training

Crosslands plans to have 10% indigenous employment by the end of FY 08/09 and 15% by the end of FY 09/10.

Cross-Cultural Staff Training

In partnership with the local Ngoonooru Wadjari people Crosslands provides provides cross-cultural awareness training to all staff and dcontracting partenrs at our Jack Hills mine. We see this as an important step in promoting mutual understanding and in maintaining open communication. Local Aboriginal people are integral to this training program - they impart their knowledge and affinity with the mid-west region, to increase education adn awareness amongst mine site employees.

Crosslands also provides cross-cultural training at our Jack Hills mine site. Local Aboriginal people are integral to this training program – they impart their knowledge and affinity with the mid-west region, to increase education and awareness amongst mine site employees.

Cultural Heritage

Crosslands continues to hold regular meetings with relevant Native Title groups and the Yamatji Land and Sea Council (YLSC) regarding proposals for our Jack Hills expansion. The project will have a significant impact on these groups and ongoing consultation is necessary to ensure we are all prepared for the changes, and reach an outcome that helps us all.

Crosslands has implemented a Cultural Heritage Management Plan in consultation with the local people to ensure we respect their wishes with regards to cultural matters that may arise. This plan provides our staff, contracting partners and the local indigenous people with relevant processes to undertake should cultural materials be located during the course of our mining operations.
